We are so thrilled to welcome Courtney Bouterac, author and special education teacher. Her talk: “Top Secret Mission!” focuses on simplifying social skills through books, activities and lessons using characters to teach common social skills challenges for kids with Autism, ADHD, and other related disorders.

Courtney Butorac has worked with children and adults with disabilities for 25 years as a special education teacher, behavior therapist, camp counselor and parent. Her specialty is working with school age students, K-5, with significant social or behavioral challenges, particularly students with Autism and/or ADHD. She is also a member of the Seattle School District’s behavior and autism intervention team (BAIT) and works with teachers across the district to improve their services for students with social and behavioral needs.
Courtney’s new books and curriculum features “The A-Team” a group of elementary age students who have autism and are awesome! They each have specific social skills challenges that they deal with in school every day, and they work together as a team to come up with strategies to be more successful. Each book addresses a particular skill such as compromising, how and when to be silly, dealing with your worries, becoming more flexible, understanding fairness, understanding Autism, and dealing with being bossy. Each week, a member of the team receives a top secret mission card that comes equipped with strategies to help him or her the next time they face that challenge.
